Hamburg, Germany – The Container Ship Safety Forum (CSSF) is pleased to announce that Evergreen Marine Corp. Ltd. has joined the Forum as a member, strengthening the collective industry effort to improve safety in container shipping.
Evergreen is one of the world’s leading liner companies, operating a global fleet and network. By joining the CSSF, Evergreen becomes part of a collaborative, member-driven platform where container ship operators and managers work together to share experience, develop best practices, and address key safety challenges.
Søren Thuen, First Chairman of the CSSF, welcomed Evergreen’s membership:
“We are very pleased to welcome Evergreen to the CSSF. It is always encouraging to leading liner companies choosing to engage with the Forum and contribute actively to collective safety efforts. Improving container ship safety requires trust, transparency, and a willingness to learn from real operational experience. Evergreen’s decision to join reflects a strong commitment to that shared responsibility and to safer operations across the industry.”
Evergreen’s motivation for joining CSSF is rooted in enhancing safety onboard and providing a safe working environment for seafarers. In particular, cargo fire safety has been identified as a core operational concern, reflecting the increasing complexity and risk associated with modern container cargoes. Y.S. Hwang, Head of the Operations Department at Evergreen, commented:
“When attending the CSSF Members Meeting in Hong Kong in 2025 as an observer, I was impressed by the openness of the discussions and the practical focus on real operational experience. Some case studies which were presented demonstrated how preparedness, training, and transparent sharing of experience can make a critical difference, even in very remote locations. That discussion reinforced our view that Evergreen should be part of the CSSF, both to learn and to contribute. Modern container cargo fires represent a serious and growing safety risk for all container carriers, and addressing this challenge requires collective awareness and joint action across the industry.”
